(And for the curious, I don't like Tagalog because of my dictatorial elementary school forcing us to speak it and threatened us to have our grades lowered if we spoke in our native tongue. I have to say, it would be nice to have Spanish as an optional subject in schools but I highly doubt that the majority of students are willing to commit to another tedious language subject. If they want to get there mouth fucked with Spanish dicks, then they should move to Spanish speaking countries. It'll sow regionalism and will divide our country even more.

Imma be honest here, I don't like Tagalog as well, but removing it is a fucking no. Meanwhile English, it's even taught in schools, and is a more practical language to learn. Spanish may be imbued in Filipino but it's effectively wiped out anyway, it's just a few words or phrases na lang. Wouldn't it be more acceptable to just stick with English instead of re-learning Spanish. Love to read y'all's opinion as I and many of us here consider you our brethren.ĭon't even wanna read that in fear of losing my few remaining brain cells. (related) why on earth would you go back to baybayin nowadays? What's wrong with letting it evolve naturally, anyway? Like. More interesting though is the disagreements in academia between pro-standardized Tagalog and the pro-vernacular, feels as though some let their pride get before their end goal. I'm happily married to a pinay (born and raised) BTW, and I have spent some time there and realized most filipinos, even well-versed and highly educated ones ignore or reject the extent of influence other languages have had in your languages, biased by their pride, just like us and the moriscan Arabic that stays in use in both modern-day Spanish and the various languages of your country, e.g. what constitutes, say, a taco or not and potentially down the line if it should be allowed to be called such or worse! So word of caution against letting politics get dragged into such pursuits, regardless of your national heroes and their writings or whatever. I get it for the sake of being practical, especially for international settings, but isn't it a bit tyrannical though to have someone policing your language, or your culture? It starts with good things like indigenous self determination, now our president here wants to start a government body to police Mexican cuisine, i.e. Regarding language specifically though most educated Mexicans will follow the Real Academia de la lengua Española's (RAE) rules, but ask us and we'll make fun of the old words Spaniards use let alone their accents and pronunciations, we will even eschew their dubs. It's rather interesting seeing as though we and you share a history and even some tidbits of our cultures, that we view some parts of our heritage as not fit for the modern world while being unreasonably proud of other bits, like language or even celebrities that haven't stepped one foot in our countries in their entire lives but claim descent (or so we sometimes infer). Their downfall has been starting political parties based on those goals that have since been all but forgotten. We have a few ultra-nationalist people hellbent on restoring specifically Náhuatl (fun fact: Filipino has a few words stemming from it, like kamatis, nanay, tatay, tsokolate, etc.) along with other old-timey traditions, and they're thought of pretty much the way y'all here think of that person from the screenshots. Government recognizes 63 national indigenous languages still being used to this day although funnily enough we're the largest Spanish speaking country by a lot (even bigger than Spain itself) with a population size not too far from yours. In my country (México) Spanish replaced many languages, most of them dead now.
